The primary focus of this workshop is STORYTELLING: of SELF, SONG + SCRIPT. The Key? It's got to look good, sound good and be the best representation of the actor's range, ability + skill.
The workshop is broken down into 3 specific components:
The initial 3 song audition (32 bars each) with accompanist + contemporary monologue, (documented on DVD for take home review) both with evaluation and redirect
The 2 song + 1 monologue DVD demo recording session (professionally captured, edited + labeled), with accompanist and acting instructor
The live cabaret performance at a professional venue with invited guests.
Acclaimed Film + Television Acting Coach + Broadway star Dean Armstrong will walk actors through a dynamic collaborative process of text/lyric analysis, character + relationship development while identifying and addressing individual strengths and weaknesses that can compromise the success of the actor's audition. The technical aspects of the song performance will also be explored to meet the specific requirements of both the stage + screen mediums. Vocal skill, as demonstrated thru the selected song, will also be evaluated and reworked to showcase the best sound and range of the individual talent.

CLASS DESCRIPTION:
This unique musical theater workshop has been designed to strengthen the actors song + monologue audition material for both the stage + screen mediums. In response to the rising number of theater companies + casting directors in both Canada + The United States accepting, and in many cases, requesting actor theatrical DVD demos, AAS has teamed up with some of North America's top musical theater instructors to retool the actor's audition for the screen.
ADDITIONAL AREAS OF FOCUS:
Material selection (song + monologue) Do they work for you?
Knowing how others see you
Identifying + best showcasing your natural "essence" in your audition + through your material
How not to look ugly on camera
How to demonstrate range through storytelling within a limited time
